Density of a package is one factor that affects shipping rates. The volumetric weight of a package is comprised of an index that reflects the package’s density. A less dense package generally occupies more space, compared to its actual weight. Thus, the shipping rate is determined according to the actual weight or the volumetric weight, whichever is greater.


According to industry practice, the formula used to calculate volumetric weight (in kg) is:

Length (cm) x Width (cm) x Height (cm) ÷ 6,000 (DIM weight factor)
(Please note that the calculation varies amongst different countries and regional market practices.Standard Express and Economy Express adjust volumetric weight divisor from 6000 to 5000)
